Us Contemplates Limiting Chinese Immigrants, According to China COVID
Following Beijing's announcement that it would reopen its borders next month, the US is thinking of placing new Covid restrictions on Chinese visitors. As cases of the coronavirus rise in China, American officials claim that this is because there is a lack of transparency surrounding it.
The United States may limit Chinese immigrants for COVID-19 due to concerns about the spread of the virus as it did in 2019-2020. China was the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, and there were concerns that allowing too many Chinese immigrants into the country could lead to the further spread of the virus. The US also implemented travel restrictions on individuals coming from China as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the virus.
Following the announcement of stricter regulations by India, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Italy revealed plans to implement mandatory testing on Wednesday. Beijing argued that the introduction of coronavirus regulations should be "scientific."
On one flight that arrived at the city's Malpensa Airport on Christmas Day, 52% of the passengers tested positive for Covid, according to la Repubblica. There is massive air traffic between US and China. Looking at the percentage of infections in Italy it seems alarming indeed for the United States health department.
The continuous Covid-19 outbreaks in China and the absence of transparent data, such as viral genetic sequence data, have raised concerns in the international community, according to a statement from US authorities that was reported by news organizations.
China's spokeswoman for the foreign ministry, Wang Wenbin, later charged that Western nations and the media had "hyped up" and "distorted China's Covid policy modifications."
Currently, the relationship between the United States and China is strained. There are several key issues that have contributed to this tension. The United States has accused China of unfair trade practices, including intellectual property theft and subsidizing state-owned enterprises. In response, the United States has implemented tariffs on Chinese imports.
Recently, The United States has criticized China for its treatment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang and for suppressing freedom of expression and political opposition. A third issue is a security. The United States has accused China of military aggression in the South China Sea, India, and of cyber espionage. All these have already accounted for a massive distrust between the two countries.
Germany and the UK have stated that they are closely observing the situation but are not at this time considering further restrictions for Chinese travelers. The number of cases in Britain is still, according to a Downing Street official, "quite modest." There was, however, "no sign that a more harmful mutation [of Covid] had developed," according to a German health ministry official.
Officials in China have ceased disclosing the necessary information, so it is unknown how many illnesses and deaths there really are every day. According to reports, hospitals are overburdened and senior citizens are dying. Beijing reported a few deaths and around 4,000 new Covid infections every day last week.
International visitors must still provide documentation of their complete Covid vaccination before entering the US. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website also suggests that anyone visiting the US get a Covid test in advance and have their results on hand, but this is not required by law.
The anonymous US authorities further stated that they were "talking with partners" and "following the science and recommendations of public health experts" in their statement.
